Meet Jennifer

What are three design must-haves in your home?

  1. Custom Drapery! It adds drama, interest, and a finished look to any room.
  2. A statement piece that will spark conversation with new guests.
  3. Accessories, color, and prints!

What’s your favorite piece in your own home?

My leopard print sofa. 😉

What unexpected places do you get design inspiration from?

My farm animals and garden provide an organic, natural mix of colors and patterns. The feathers on my chickens, the sunset on the pond, and the vibrancy of the plant’s growth, from seed to flower to veggie or fruit, inspire limitless creativity and inspiration.

You moved around a lot overseas growing up. What did you learn from that?

There are so many things. For one, I learned how to redesign my bedroom over and over! The first thing I would do each time we moved was decorate my room, from my Barbie stage to my heavy metal stage in the 80s.

I eventually moved to Guam with my mom and stepfather, which was a significant culture shock. Looking back now, I appreciate everything I learned. It taught me about different cultures, dealing with adversity, adopted the love of travel, valuing people, and never taking what you have for granted.

The most inspiring thing was all the relationships I cultivated and still have intact today. It was an experience I’ll cherish forever, as I saw parts of the world I might not have otherwise. It also helped shape me as a designer by supporting my ability to understand others.

How did you decide to pursue interior design professionally?

I’ve always been creative and wanted to be an interior designer. After over two decades of working in the banking industry, I decided to become a part of the Decorating Den Interiors network and open a design studio in Rock Hill, SC. I studied at the New York Institute of Art & Design while working part-time as an interior designer. My husband and I remodeled a house in Holden Beach, NC, which lit the fire for me to start my own business.

Living in the country inspires me a lot. I started raising chickens, riding my horse, getting my hands dirty, and watching my garden flourish. I develop my best design ideas when I can get out in nature.
